New Faculty or Changes in Teaching Assignments
- If you have new faculty (full-time or adjunct) please let us know their name and email address. They will need to be added to the SYL system to work in SYL. Please email this information to curriculum@stlcc.edu.
- If you have changes to who will be teaching a section, those changes will need to be made in Banner before they will be recognized in SYL. If you know the changes have been made in Banner (at least one day prior) and you are still having issues accessing your syllabus, please contact curriculum@stlcc.edu.
New for Spring 2025!
Textbook information populates into SYL automatically. There is also a link in each syllabus to the campus bookstore site. There is still an “additional textbook information” section if you want to add comments.
Copying a Syllabus
- One of our most asked questions is how to use the Copy From feature which allows you to copy information from a previously created syllabus into your new syllabus. Please review these steps, and if you happen to copy from the wrong syllabus, please contact curriculum@stlcc.edu.
-
Important: You cannot copy a syllabus if you get to SYL through Canvas because that starts a fresh draft. If you want to copy, you need to go to the editing site directly
Editing a Syllabus
Please be sure you are editing only the current semester syllabi. We have had a few people who have edited their previous semester's syllabi on accident. Please be sure to choose the current semester in the advanced search section when you are searching for your syllabi.
Publishing Your Syllabus
Once you have completed editing your syllabus, you will need to publish the page for it to go live on the SYL public page. Publishing a syllabus to the public page can take up to 24 hours. Once you have published your syllabus, you can use the Download PDF feature on the SYL viewing page (public page) to download a PDF to share with your students. You can also copy the URL to your syllabus from this site to share with your students. More information about publishing your syllabus can be found beginning on page 16 of the SYL Training Guide.
Need Help?
- If you need a refresher on how to do something in SYL, please view our SYL page for links to videos, training documents, and FAQs.
- Please don’t hesitate to reach out to the Curriculum & Assessment team at curriculum@stlcc.edu. Using this email address may help to expedite a response to you, whereas if you contact one of us individually, you may not get a response right away if that individual is busy.
Technical Help
If faculty are having trouble accessing the syllabus or are getting a message saying that they are not authorized to edit a syllabus, please have the faculty member contact curriculum@stlcc.edu. All SYL issues or questions should be directed to curriculum@stlcc.edu.
Also, course learning outcomes populate for your course automatically onto your syllabus. You do not need to type those into the syllabus. If your course learning outcomes are not appearing, you are not working with the correct template. Please see page 4 of the SYL Guide for more information about choosing the correct template.
