Azure Labs: Virtual Lab Creation Guidelines
REMOTE INSTRUCTION SOLUTION ISSUES:
The project coordinators have been working with a few instructors to get a pilot environment setup for anyone who needs a remote instruction solution provided, either because students do not have a computer that meets the demands of a class or there is a need for instructors to grade an ongoing student configuration.
WHO NEEDS THIS:
This visualized solution is primarily targeting classes that need removable drives. A lab creation guide walks through the basic steps of setting up a lab.
This is typically only for individuals within the IS department and specifically needing to teach using the an alternative to the removal drive environment.
STEP-BY-STEP SOLUTION:
- Navigate to labs.azure.com
- Login with your College Email account if needed
- Click on the “New Lab” Link in the top left of your Labs Page.
- Fill out the New Lab Information.
- Use naming standard <Class>-<Instructor Name>
- Initial Setup Use GoldBase (this is an image I created with Browsers, Win10 1903, Java, Etc.
- Virtual Machine Size will Typically be 4 Core, 7 or 16GB RAM (Please do not oversize your images)

- Enter an Admin User name and PW (I am looking into using Student Login’s)
- Set the Quota for each user’s time and disconnect shutdown time (5 minute typical)
- Click Finish (this will take a bit of time to setup)
- This Creates the Template for your class, you still need to publish it.
- Navigate to your Lab once the new lab completes setup, i.e. Click the “FPIS Test” link at the top of your window then click on your lab
- Click on the “Template” Menu item On the Left, Assign a Title/Description to the Template and then Click “Start Template
- Click “Connect to template”, this takes the place of “Start template” once started
- Make any Changes to the VM, i.e. install software, create users, etc.
- Sign out once completed
- Click Stop Template and then Publish
- Navigate to the “Users” Menu Item Of your VM and Click Add users

- You can Add by email address or by importing a .csv file
- Click the “Invite all” link or to invite just a single user click the envelope icon for the user.
