Canvas: Creating and Syncing a Team on the Instructor End
Step 1: Sync with Microsoft
Instructors must first synchronize the Canvas course to Teams. This essentially creates the Class Team and adds all of your students to it. Please open this simulation to walk through the process:

Here are the steps outlined in the simulation:
- Open your Canvas course.
- Select the Settings link in your course navigation.
- Select the Integrations tab of the Settings screen (you may need to scroll up).
- Toggle the State slider next to Microsoft Sync to change it from an x to a checkmark. When the setting is changed to a green checkmark, the setting is saved.
- Click the Sync Nowbutton to create the class team and send the enrollments from your course to the Class Team.
- A status message will display indicating that a sync is currently running.
- Once the sync has processed, Teams will notify you that the Class Team has been created. You can access the class team from the Microsoft Teams classes navigation link.
Step 2: Activate the Class Team in Canvas
Follow the steps below to activate your class team. Once activated, students will be able to access it.
- Access the Canvas course.
- Select the Microsoft Teams classes link from your course menu.
- Select the course card to open your class team.
- Activate the team when you are ready for students to access your class team.
